Windermere Cottages

The Courtyard Cottages, Bigland Hall: Windermere Cottages

Windermere cottages have long been a favourite of holiday makers heading to the Lake District to take in the splendour of Lake Windermere and its surrounding fells. Our six privately owned luxury cottages are just a short drive away from the southern edge of the lake at Newby Bridge. Enjoying an elevated position above the traditional Lakeland village of Backbarrow, they are close to the Cartmel Peninsula, the Leven Estuary, and many of the Lake District’s favourite towns.

Our luxury cottages are part of a private estate; a rural idyll with a tarn/lake, ancient woodland and a tranquil atmosphere. Each of the six luxury cottages in our recently renovated development has its own hot tub for your exclusive use. This really is an unrivalled luxury retreat.

Why choose a luxury break near Windermere?

Windermere is the perfect year-round destination. With the shores of the lake so close to The Courtyard Cottages, Bigland Hall, you are never short of stunning views to enjoy or leisure activities to try. There are two viewpoints offering panoramic views of Lake Windermere and the Lake District fells – Orrest Head and Gummers How. Both are a quick drive from our accommodation and both deliver breathtaking scenery without much walking effort.

The towns of Windermere and Bowness have attracted visitors since Victorian times, when the railway branch line was opened. Due to the open access to the lake shore, the area remains just as popular today. We highly recommend a trip to Bowness-on-Windermere during your stay – and a cruise on the steamers that stop at Lakeside, Bowness, and Ambleside.

The Lake District is one of the UK’s most stunning and ancient landscapes and I am thrilled it has been granted World Heritage Site status. It is a unique part of the world, that combines a vibrant farming community with thousands of archaeological sites and structures that give us an amazing glimpse into our past.

Reviews of our Windermere cottages

Absolutely superb cottage, that totally exceeded our expectations. Lots of little extras that we didn’t expect. Cannot think of a bad thing about the property. Would recommend to anyone, even better than the pictures.

Fantastic accommodation. Very high standard of fittings and equipment. Lovely welcome from Lynsey.
