Welcome to The Courtyard Cottages, Bigland Hall, six traditional holiday cottages near Grange over Sands that offer luxury accommodation. Ranging from two to five bedrooms, the cottages can be hired singly or in combination to accommodate up to 40 guests.
Our six cottages offer luxury accommodation and the traditional Lakeland buildings are set around an enchanting courtyard. The views across the Leven Estuary to the Lake District fells beyond provide a magical setting. Snuggle up in front of the cosy log burners, enjoy a soak in your outdoor hot tub, or gather round one of our dining tables with friends and family.

About Grange over Sands
Traditionally a seaside resort, the town of Grange-over-Sands retains a great deal of Edwardian elegance from its heyday. There are ornamental gardens, attractive shopping arcades, tearooms, and a promenade that’s perfect for leisurely strolls.

Grange over Sands is a lovely place to visit during your stay with us, here are some more details on our favourite spots to visit in the seaside town…
A traffic-free promenade, with ornamental gardens and a lovely duck pond, is quite an attraction. Take a leisurely stroll and admire the views across Morecambe Bay, stop at the quaint café or play a round of crazy golf. The promenade is beautifully kept and the pride of the village. If you’re travelling as a family it is ideal for little legs or pram and bike wheels, and an ice cream while feeding the ducks is a popular activity with visitors and locals alike. There’s also a playground at the far end of the prom.
Golfers can take advantage of not one but two courses in Grange over Sands, and many more in the wider local area.
Established in 1919, Grange over Sands members’ club is well known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The 18-hole course is a parkland course designed by the famous Dr Alister Mackenzie. Situated between the panoramic Morecambe Bay and the beautiful Southern Lake District, it’s a picturesque but low-lying course to play.
Grange Fell Golf Club is a magnificent nine-hole course set on the slopes above Grange Over Sands and Cartmel. The Club has some of the best views in South Lakeland and provides a fair but testing golf course which will suit all standards of golfer. The par 70 card provides interesting and unique features to ensure you enjoy your round.
Grange is an excellent spot for bird watching, as is the surrounding area. Just along the road from our cottage is Humphrey Head, where Peregrine regularly breed. In winter, it’s a great place to spot wintering waders, like shelduck, curlew and redshank on the salt marsh.
Not far from us, you’ll find Witherslack. Here, in the spring and summer, breeding ringed plover, oystercatcher, stonechat, grey partridge and skylark can be spotted. In the colder months, wintering wildfowl and waders, like wigeon and goldeneye head to the area.
Located just 3 miles outside of the village stands the Victorian stately home, Holker Hall. Set in 25 acres of ancient deer park, it also has stunning gardens to explore. The Holker estate has its own café, brasserie, gift shop and food hall, and hosts an annual programme of special events.
